Has the Spanish Sulk already signed for Ferrari?
Everyone in F1 knows that Fernando Alonso is not a happy bunny at Renault. His R28 is a long way off the pace of the top teams, so that’s understandable. But has Alonso already agreed to drive for Ferrari in 2009? Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz has revealed that his team did not attempt to sign Alonso for 2008 because the Spaniard “was free for a year only”.
“Alonso told a Spanish newspaper that Red Bull would be his favourite option,” Mateschitz said in an interview with El Mundo. “His situation was complicated, though, because he was free for a year only.”
Mateschitz’s implication is that Alonso had agreed to join the Scuderia (presumably) after just one “interim” season back at Renault. Grid Crasher guesses that Felipe Massa, winner in Bahrain last weekend, would be the driver replaced by Alonso. Watch this space.
