Schumi signs up to appear on Swiss version of “The Match”
Not content with showing the world that he can handle a motorbike almost as well as he handled a Ferrari in his F1 days, Michael Schumacher has set his sights on the beautiful game. The German legend has signed up to appear on “Der Match”, a Swiss reality TV show in which a team of celebrities will play against a team of Swiss football legends (you may have seen the British version, on Sky One). We have to ask: are there 11 Swiss football legends?
Schumi now lives in Switzerland, in a huge mansion located on a private beach overlooking Lake Geneva. He has always been a keen footballer, and currently turns out for his local football team, FC Echichens. The photos here show him playing in a UN charity match in November 2007, against ex-France international Christian Karembeu, and alongside Ronaldo (the fat Brazilian, rather than the Portuguese stud). He’s a hard-running midfield general type, by all accounts, and was probably good enough to play at a lower-league level, had he not chosen a life behind the wheel.
Schumacher has already started training for the series, alongside other celebrities whose identities are as yet unkown. According to German newspaper Bild, the match will be shown live on Swiss and German TV in May.
