Grid Crasher reveals why Formula 1 wants to keep Max Mosley away from this month’s Spanish GP

The real reason that Max Mosley is not welcome in Spain later this month is because the FIA is planning to launch its “Race Against Racism” initiative at the Spanish Grand Prix (race day is April 27). And the presence of the man at the centre of the News of the World’s “Nazi Orgy!” sex scandal would not sit well with an anti-racism campaign – indeed, it would render any such launch a total farce and provoke another media shitstorm.

Race Against Racism was actually initiated by Mosley, as a “get tough” response to the idiots who turned up during pre-season testing at the Circuit de Catalunya earlier this year with blacked up faces and abusive banners, with the aim of taunting Lewis Hamilton. What better place to launch a campaign against racism than at the same track where the problem was first highlighted?

But now Mosley will not get the chance to personally put his plan into action. Our F1 mole tells us that the crown prince of Jordan may have been “gently encouraged”, by a senior figure in F1, to invite Mosley to his country’s World Rally event, which coincidentally takes place on the same weekend as the F1 Spanish GP – it’s a convenient excuse to get Max, who is apparently itching to attend a grand prix again, out of the way.

In fact, F1 does not want Mosley to attend any three of the races (Spain, Turkey and Monaco) held between now and the FIA vote of confidence, which will take place on June 3, at the organisation’s Extraordinary General Assembly in Paris. After that vote, and whatever the outcome, the word is that Mosley will again be welcome to attend F1 grand prixs. F1 hasn’t seen the last of the man from the FIA.

Of course, it’s worth asking at this point – how good is Max at taking orders (orders which must be obeyed at all times)?
