Enjoy some of the ballsiest manoeuvres seen in Formula 1. Then tell us which ones we missed (or couldn’t find on YouTube)
1. Nigel Mansell on Nelson Piquet (Silverstone, 1987)
A classic dummy from Mansell, one of motorsport’s most fearless overtakers. Nige jinked left then powered through on Piquet’s right. The Silverstone crowd went wild.
2. Mika Hakkinen on Michael Schumacher and Ricardo Zonta (Spa, 2000)
The cheekiest of passes by the “Flying Finn”, using poor Zonta as a smokescreen. Hakkinen went on to win the race.
3. Juan Pablo Montoya on Michael Schumacher (Brazil, 2001)
In which Schumi tries to intimidate Montoya, and fails. You can tell Montoya would rather have crashed then given ground - the German realises this and backs down.
4. Gilles Villeneuve on Alan Jones (Zandvoort, 1979)
The late Villeneuve shows off his legendary cojones by going around the outside of Jones’s Ferrari. Watch it from another angle.
5. Nigel Mansell on Gerhard Berger (Mexico City, 1990)
Another astonishingly ballsy move by our Nige.
6. Jos Verstappen on Mika Hakkinen; Heinz Harald Frentzen on Jos Verstappen (Sepang 2001)
Jos the Boss smacks down Mika Hakkinen’s McLaren. And he’s in a fricking Arrows! Meanwhile, crafty Frentzen takes advantage of the spat. The sneak.
