Honda F1 star takes part in amateur triathlon event in Kent
When he’s not busy finishing in mid-table, Jenson Button likes nothing more than to pull on a pair of Lyrcra shorts and do a triathlon. On Sunday, with no grand prix to race in, Button and his physio Mike Collier took part in their first amateur triathlon event, the Sevenoaks Triathlon in Kent. Here’s Jens, in natty white gilet and shades, on the final leg of the 400m swim-27km cycle-8km run madness. The Honda driver, who won a triathlon in Lanzarote as part of his pre-season training, finished 16th out of a field of 250 – an impressive effort. Collier, the man who is paid to make sure Button is free from aches and pains, was 47th.
According to Honda’s official website, Jens has registered to compete in the Nokia Royal Windsor Triathlon on June 15. Who knows, if his racing career goes tits up, perhaps he could make a name for himself as a triathlete? He seemed to relish the Sevenoaks challenge, saying “I really enjoy competing in triathlons, probably because I have total control over my race.” Translation: “In triathlon, I don’t have to rely on a crappy Honda.”
