Grid Crasher sees who endured a China crisis

Five winners:

1. Valentino Rossi The Doctor is back again, after a seven-race winless streak - ah, we never doubted him. The Italian maestro hardly put a wheel wrong in Shanghai, and is deservedly the new bookies’ favourite for the title. Great to see him back on the podium’s top step.

2. & 3. Charlie Cox & Steve Parrish The BBC’s MotoGP first-class commentary duo continue to entertain, inform and excite – they complement each other so well. We’d like to see them involved somehow in the Beeb’s F1 coverage next season.

4. Dani Pedrosa Was the only rider who got near Rossi on Sunday. His second place moves him into the sole lead in the championship. If he maintains this level of consistency, he could win his first world title this year.

5. The fans MotoGP followers have enjoyed the most exciting, unpredictable start to a season ever, and China kept up the pace. Four winners in four races - it doesn’t get any better than that. Who could predict which way the title will swing next?

Five losers:

1. Jorge Lorenzo Admittedly, it’s very harsh to brand young Jorge a loser. After all, he did get back on his bike after a spectacular crash in practice, to grab an amazing fourth place. That said, China did see the Spaniard lose his co-lead in the championship, and break his ankle. Because of that, he goes down as a loser, albeit a loser with bigger balls than us.

2. James Toseland His worst performance of the season, by some distance. Twelfth place was not a terrible result on a what was a new track to the British rider, but he knows he can - and will - do better.

3. Casey Stoner The whining Aussie has had almost zero luck since Qatar. That run continued in China, where he was wrongly advised to choose a soft compound trye on a quick-drying track. He wasn’t happy with third place at a track where the Ducati should have been at the very front of the pack.

4. Colin Edwards Grabbed a shock pole position, but as usual, he couldn’t make it stick. Faded badly during the race to finish down in seventh.

5. Britain’s 125cc riders All three Brits – Bradley Smith, Scott Redding and Danny Webb – crashed out in wet conditions.
