F1 also-rans call it a day
We knew things were bad when Super Aguri sent driver Anthony Davidson out on a tandem. Now comes the news that the under-powered, under-financed team has withdrawn from F1 with immediate effect; an 11th-hour rescue package by German auto company Weigl Group was not enough to keep them racing at the back of the grid.
Will we miss them? Not really, to be frank. They didn’t have much personality as a team, and would spend most of a race getting in the way of faster cars, if they hadn’t already retired due to a mechanical failure.
However, SA’s demise means that there are now just 10 teams racing in F1 – the grid was originally having supposed to have had 12 teams in 2008, but Prodrive’s entry never happened. Could this pave the way for big manufacturers like Audi or VW to enter the fray? We’d rather see that than a new backmarker team. Someone needs to come in and shake up the Ferrari/McLaren/BMW dominance.

Was Nick Fry involved in Super Aguri’s demise?
