U.S. car giant shows new, lighter side
Old-school U.S. car manufacturers are finally realising that the auto industry is not stuck in the 1950s; nor is it centred around the States. To compete with Japan and Europe, which have been producing better, sexier, more modern cars for decades now, it needs to… copy Japan and Europe, by producing sexy, modern cars.
Take the new Chevrolet Aveo, for example. It doesn’t look like an American gas guzzler - that’s because it’s based on the Daewoo Kalos, a sprightly Korean hatchback. Such a modern car needs to be sold with the help of a witty, modern ad, much like the one above (remind you of any Citroen ads?). It’s funny to see Chevy take a pop at the Transformers craze, especially since the company paid so much money to have its Camaro star in the recent Transformers movie.
