There’s no getaway from the Caparo T1
The Metropolitan Police are looking to use McLaren’s Caparo T1 supercar (pictured above) as a rapid response vehicle. The two-seater car, which can go from 0 to 60mph in 2.5 seconds, has been given the green light to be used on UK roads.
A police source said: “The Caparo would ensure officers can get to the scene of a crime faster. It’s certainly something we’ll be looking at getting.”
But where would an apprehended criminal sit? In the passenger seat, with an A to Z on his lap?
Here’s how the car looks in police livery:
And a couple more official pics of the car:
The Caparo was first launched back in April 2006, but has still not gone on sale - now that it has been approved for UK roads, it should be rolled out sometime this year. Despite its obvious gorgeousness, the car has suffered a couple of high-profile teething troubles, most notably when a prototype caught fire at 160mph, during filming for Channel Five’s Fifth Gear.
