Pre-race quotes from Montreal, and what they mean

Kimi Raikkonen (Ferrari)
“At Montreal the stability during braking and when you go over the curbs is extremely important. The F2008 improved a lot in these areas compared to last year’s car. Obviously we have to wait until the first Free Practice session on Friday to get it confirmed.
What he really means: Not sure. We fell asleep half-way through the second sentence.

Felipe Massa (Ferrari)
“I love the city and the atmosphere and I am looking forward to having a nice time there both on and off the track.”
What he really means: “Show me the party.”

Robert Kubica (BMW Sauber)
“Although I had a very big accident there in 2007, Montreal is one of my favourite tracks.”
What he really means: “I can’t remember that accident because I’m still partly concussed.”

Nick Heidfeld (BMW Sauber)
“It’s a very fast course and features mainly chicanes and straights. We drive with relatively low downforce and the brakes come in for a great deal of punishment.”
What he really means: Heidfeld always means what he says. He’s German.

Fernando Alonso (Renault)
“We have made some progress recently and we are trying to continue moving forward as much as possible. Since the Spanish Grand Prix we seem to have been on the pace, and so should be in Canada as well, and we will do everything to try and make sure that we are.”
What he really means: “Things are getting better, but I’m still off to Ferrari.”

Nico Rosberg (Williams)
“There are lots of cool bars, restaurants and clubs, and there are some good places to go shopping. There are also some beautiful places around the city, especially near the mountains, where I like to go for my daily run.”
What he really means: “There’s a race on?”

Jenson Button (Honda)
“Montreal is one of my favourite race weekends on the F1 calendar. The atmosphere around the track and the city is always fantastic.”
What he really means: “I like Canadian girls.”

Lewis Hamilton (McLaren)
“Last year in Canada was one of the biggest accomplishments of my life, to take my maiden pole and victory in Formula 1 was incredible, even more so as it was with Vodafone McLaren Mercedes. It would be great to go back there and do the same, and that is what we are working hard to achieve. Since then I think I’ve matured a lot, I think I have grown stronger as a driver and have become closer to the team.”
What he really means: “I am a company man.”

So, the drivers really love Montreal, it seems. Surely it’s not because of its reputation as the biggest party venue on the F1 circuit?
