Lewis turns down Jenson’s triathlon challenge
At a Reebok event on Tuesday, Lewis Hamilton had claimed he was fitter than Jenson Button. Yeah, cause it’s not like F1 drivers are competitive freaks, so Jenson was not going to let that line lie.
At yesterday’s Silverstone press conference, Super Jens dared Lewis to compete against him in the Bath Triathlon on 27 July, with the loser coughing up £10,000 to charity.
The two British drivers traded verbal blows, with David Coulthard egging Lewis on from the sidelines: “He’s throwing down a man challenge,” DC said, in a blatant attempt to wind up Hamilton. “You’re turning down a man challenge? You can’t turn down a man challenge!”
Hamilton then proved his mouth is somewhat bigger than his trousers, saying: “I’m not putting myself into that. I don’t know. I’ll probably be working or doing something else.”
Yeah Lewis, sure you will. Washing your hair, or banging a Pussycat Doll, maybe?
Hamilton then rang an assistant before saying: “I’ve checked my calendar to see if I am busy that day, and unfortunately I don’t think I am!”
Within an hour of the press conference, with the smell of testosterone still hanging in the air, Anthony Hamilton (Lewis’s dad) stepped in to put an end to his son’s macho posturing: “Lewis accepted the challenge like the good sport he is, and in the spirit with which he accepts things. But unfortunately for Lewis, we are withdrawing him from this… We are in the middle of the championship, and that is the focus of our attention.”
If you’re a regular Grid Crasher reader, you’ll know that Button is becoming something of a triathlon specialist, so Lewis would surey lose out. Agreed?
