Is Heikki Kovalainen too nice to succeed in F1?

Have your say…

Heikki is Lewis’s No.2, his wingman, his Goose, his gimp, his bitch.

Kovi seems very popular within McLaren - almost above criticism, it seems - because he is the perfect team-mate for Hamilton. In other words, he’s a nice guy who doesn’t speak out, and he always lets Lewis overtake him when the need arises.

But… the Finn has made it to the podium just once in ten races. In one of the best two cars on the grid. That’s the sort of performance that should see Kovi’s seat under threat. But it seems McLaren may take up an option on Heikki for 2009.

Kovi’s success at McLaren, in stark contrast to his non-success on the track, may have something to do with his personality. He doesn’t rock the boat, he doesn’t moan. In short, he’s not Fernando Alonso. After a turbulent 2007 season for McLaren, it must be nice for Dennis to have two drivers who get on.

But surely Kovalainen must want more than a role as Hamilton’s loyal deputy? Or is he just too nice to make it to the very top of F1?

of course he’s not Fernando. All ron wants from Hekki is to help Lewis win: he CLEARLY let Hamilton pass him after his 2nd pit stop. All Ron wants is a marionet who can follow the team orders and let lewis pass him every time he’s in front of lewis, like this time.

He’s just too slow, that’s all. McLaren surely wanted a clear number 2 driver after last year, but they probably thought he would bring home some more points. But at least this reduces the times where they need to employ team order like they did in Hockenheim.
