DC says he wants to be part of BBC’s F1 coverage
Martin Brundle is a very good F1 pundit, probably the best around. But he lacks a couple of things. Firstly, he has no charisma. He does have a very dry wit that serves him well, but he lacks any of the colourful charm of his predecessor, James Hunt. That’s no criticism of Brundle, it’s just a fact.
When the BBC take back F1 coverage in 2009, they may well go all out to poach Brundle from ITV. We think they’d be better off going for David Coulthard. DC is charming, witty and not afraid to say what he thinks - much like Hunt, but without the old-school roguishness. Plus he knows what it’s like to win grands prix on a regular basis, something that Brundle’s CV lacks.
In a recent interview Coulthard said he would consider a commentary role with the BBC for next season. We hope both parties come to an agreement; given time, Coulthard could become a truly great F1 broadcaster.
