Poor Heikki
In Hungary
Finns can only get better
Kovi has had lousy luck so far - some of his own making, we admit - so it’s about time he caught a break. With Mercedes boss Norbert Haug hinting this week that Heikki will keep his seat in 2009 - “It can be assumed that Kovalainen is staying with us,” Haug told German press agency dpa - this is the Finn’s chance to show how good he really is.
Lewis Hamilton has ripped his team-mate a new one in the last couple of races, but then he’s done that to everyone in the field, so Kovi shouldn’t be too down on himself. He certainly shouldn’t listen to out-of-touch old farts like Sir Jackie Stewart, who suggested recently that Lewis needs more support from his No.2. Ron Dennis put Stewart in his place, and rightly so; Dennis understands the concept of teamwork better than most people in F1.
With McLaren set to back Kovi, we expect him to put in a strong performance in Hungary this weekend. Our tip is for a McLaren one-two, with Hamilton leading Heikki home.
