F1 teams test on Gloucestershire runway, neighbours not amused
McLaren tested on a runway at Kemble Airport near Cirencester last week - it was a simple, routine shakedown ahead of this month’s European GP - even during the August break, teams are permitted to conduct short shakedowns and aero tests. However, not everyone was happy with the test. Six - yes, six! - locals wrote letters of complaint about the noise from the McLaren’s engine.
“I have written to the airfield letting them know how many complaints we got this week and last week,” said environmental health officer Ray Brassington.
Good work Ray - you can’t let F1 get away with noise pollution. But if you live near an airport, what do you expect?
Force India and Renault also tested at Kemble; Renault are believed to be working on a new braking system ahead of Valencia.

I am the organiser of Bloom Festival. We have successfully run Bloom Festival for the past three years. As our visitor figures have grown, we needed a larger site. We were granted a license to run this festival. If we had not been granted a license, we would of course, looked elsewhere. Environmental Health Officer Mr Arthur Raymond Brassington, on behalf of the CDC made the running of this festival, during the three day event, virtually impossible. This officer of the council has had such a destructive impact on our business I sympathise with Kemble. If it is left to Mr Brassington there will be nobody able to trade in Gloucester.

Having had the misfortune of having been in Monaco during the F1 season, from personal experience the sustained whine of a F1 engine is infinitely more annoying and irksome than any aircraft engine ever will be.
Residents were right to complain.
