Spaniard wants colleagues to hold minute’s silence for crash victims
Fernando Alonso said he hoped all drivers would hold a minute’s silence before Sunday’s European Grand Prix, to remember the 153 victims of the tragic Spanair plane crash in Madrid.
“I will wear a black armband and I will talk with the drivers tomorrow,” he said. “Maybe we can do something before starting, maybe one minute’s silence in the pit lane.”
As you’d expect, Alonso - the only Spanish driver on the grid - has been greatly affected by the incident.
“It will definitely change the weekend for me because it’s a tragedy,” he told reporters at Valencia. “All the Spanish people are in shock and I am too. It’s probably the saddest approach to a weekend I have had.”
