Reds rev-up for football racing series
Liverpool have followed Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur in confirming their involvement in the Superleague Formula. A host of top European football clubs, including AC Milan, Roma, Porto and PSV Eindhoven, have extended their brand into motor racing and joined the series. The football squad was drafted in for a photo opportunity with the car outside their Melwood training ground.
In true Liverpool style, the Reds have signed a Spaniard to be their star performer. GP2 racer Adrian Valles has been snapped up in time to drive Liverpool’s car at the opening race of the championship at Donington Park this weekend. “I’m really happy for the opportunity to represent Liverpool,” said former Spyker test driver Valles. “I’ve followed the club closely ever since (Rafa) Benitez took over at the helm and obviously there are a lot of top Spanish players representing the club as well.”
Two minutes later all four tyres had been knicked and the car was up on bricks! Only kidding!
