Realistic online racing for the masses
A new subscription-based internet racing simulator aimed at motorsport fans as well as professionals has been launched. The package , which has been developed over the past four years, will allow anyone to take part in internet racing as long as they are armed with a quick enough internet connection, a wheel-and-pedals controller, and the subscription fee.
“In a larger sense, today marks the commencement of an entire new sport - internet racing, which parallels in every meaningful way the sport of auto racing in the physical world,” iRacing’s co-founder and owner John Henry said. “In addition to real-world racing drivers, who have been using the simulation throughout its lengthy period of development and testing as part of their preparation for real-world driving, other members of the motorsport community, including fans, will now have an affordable opportunity to participate in an authentic racing experience and to join in a community of people who share their own passion for auto racing.”
The game features most of the North American racetracks and a variety of different car categories, including Formula Mazda and Formula 2000. The simulator includes a 3-D ‘bump map’ of the tracks, realistic car performance using information gathered from manufacturers, and relies on true-to-life apexes, braking points and camber. Subscription packages start at $20 per month. More information on iRacing.com.
