DC and Brundle get jobs with Auntie
Soon-to-be ex-F1 driver David Coulthard has already got his next job lined up. Instead of causing crashes in Formula One races he will now be talking about them. DC has been confirmed as a studio pundit for the BBC’s coverage of the 2009 F1 season. Grid Crasher predicted a job for the Scot way back in July, but we don’t like to be big-chinned big-headed about it.
The other big news is that popular co-commentator Martin Brundle has been tempted over from ITV and will be the BBC’s co-commentator too (although you suspect that Coulthard is being groomed for this role). The other members of the ITV team - commentator James Allen, presenter Steve Rider, pit stalkers Ted Kravitz and Louise Goodman, and studio pundit Mark Blundell - have not been offered work.
The main man with the mic from next season will be BBC Radio Five Live’s current F1 commentator Jonathan Legard. His F1 pedigree is undoubted, but the choice of former children’s TV presenter Jake Humphrey as the presenter might raise a few eyebrows. He has been cutting his teeth at Euro 2008 (where I thought he was pretty embarrassing to be honest), the Olympics and Football Focus.
