Why Lewis won’t win Brazil but will win the Championship

Brazil GP, Sunday, 5pm (GMT), ITV1, Free £10 Bet

Lewis in Brazil

The big question in Brazil is what will Lewis Hamilton do if he finds himself behind Felipe Massa in Brazil. Will he sit back and accept being second-best for a day, or will his famed on-track aggression cause a major error chasing victory and throw away the Drivers Championship once again? Here’s some statistics compiled by chickendinner that suggest the Brit is unlikely to win in Interlagos but should still win the Championship:

» Hamilton has followed just one of his last seven race wins with victory in the following Grand Prix.

» More worryingly, only one of the last six have been followed by a podium finish.

» There have only ever been three British victories at Interlagos - the last of which came in 2001. In comparison there have been six occasions where a Brazilian has taken the chequered flag.

» McLaren have won in Brazil just once in the last six years. Over that period Ferrari have been victorious on three occasions, each time with a different driver.

» Massa won this race in 2006 and finished 1.493 seconds behind Kimi Raikkonen. He led for much of the race and may have challenged more in the closing stages were he not doing a job for the team.

» Kimi Raikkonen should also play a part in hampering Hamilton. The Finn traditionally finishes strongly and has taken more points in the last two races than in the previous six combined. He has finished in the top two at Interlagos in four of the last five years.

…but he should win the Drivers Championship

» Despite underachieving in races that follow victories, Hamilton’s

Grid Girl No. 27: Catalina Maya

Meet Colombia’s greatest legal export

Mexican NASCAR driver Adrian Fernandez is one lucky chap. Not only is he handsomely paid to drive in a giant circle, but when the day is over, he gets to come home to Catalina Maya. As you can see, she is astoundingly good looking, and wears as little as possible for a living. More evidence after the jump…

Artist unveils Lewis Hamilton portrait painted with remote-controlled cars

Lewis on display at Tower Bridge

A huge portrait of Lewis Hamilton is now on show near Tower Bridge in Ye Olde Londontown. It’s on display throughout the crunch weekend of the Brazilian Grand Prix. Go and see it - say a little prayer for Lil’ Lewis, or, if you’re a Spanish racist, spit at it.

The portrait was commissioned by Reebok and made by Birmingham-based artist Ian Cook, who used small, radio-controlled cars to paint on the 12m x 8m canvas. Check out a pic of Ian posing in front of his masterpiece:

David Coulthard dedicates final grand prix to charity

DC’s uses swansong to promote paraplegia research

emp-6504680.jpg

As we told you a couple of days ago, David Coulthard’s Red Bull RB4 will run with a special-edition livery for his final ever F1 GP. And here it is, looking rather smart in all white, with red-and-blue trim. The Scot unveiled the car at Interlagos yesterday, with a little help from his friends - namely, the F1 drivers.

The reason behind the colour change? DC is helping to promote Wings For Life, a research foundation which hopes to find a cure for spinal cord injuries.

“I’m dedicating my last race to the vision of making paraplegia curable,” the Big Chin announced on Red Bull’s official website. “In Formula One success is determined by a few seconds, in medicine people think in terms of years. But in both disciplines, ambition and commitment are crucial factors that are needed in order to reach the finishing line as soon as possible. Wings for Life helps to accelerate the breakthrough in spinal cord research.”

What a guy! Yes, he’s a millionaire racing driver with a hot WAG and a f**k-off house in Monte Carlo, but it’s a great and selfless act, nonetheless.

More pics from the unveiling below:

Lewis Hamilton abused by racist Alonso fans

Lewis targeted online

lewishamilton_800x527.jpg

Not for the first time, racists have targeted Lewis Hamilton. So-called fans of Fernando Alonso - not all of them support Alonso - left abusive messages on a Spanish website called Pincha la Rueda de Hamilton, or “Burst Hamilton’s Tyre”. Visitors can drop virtual nails, tacks or porcupines (yes, porcupines) on a computerised version of the Interlagos track, hoping Hamilton “suffers a puncture”.

So what, you might say - it’s a bit of fun. But it’s the abusive comments left on the site that have inevitably made the headlines. We won’t repeat them here, but you can imagine the type of anti-Lewis bile that some visitors to the site have spouted.

“Everyone in our sport will join us in condemning these abusive and hateful comments,” said an FIA spokesman in a statement that McLaren later agreed with. McLaren also admitted that their driver is “vaguely aware” of the website and offensive comments.

Jarno Trulli may miss Brazilian GP with fever

Toyota’s veteran is under the weather

emp-5799838.jpg

Dear Mr Ecclestone,

Jarno has a bit of a temperature and won’t be able to do gym today.

yours sincerely,
Jarno’s Mum

Yep, poor Jarno is laid up in his Sao Paulo hotel with a “high fever”. The Italian was reportedly treated by Toyota’s team doctor, Riccardo Ceccarelli, but he should be okay to drive in practice later today. Lots of water and paracetamol - that’s what Gridcrasher prescribes in such a case. But don’t have a wank or your temperature will go through the roof - Larry David knows this only too well (3min 18 secs into the clip).
