Put on your blue-tinted specs and decide…
Nelson Piquet’s future at Renault appears to still be in doubt after team boss Flavio Briatore said that the Brazilian’s fine drive - from 12th to fourth - at Fuji last Sunday was not enough to guarantee the young Brazilian a seat for 2009.
In fairness, Briatore also praised Piquet’s performance in Japan, but he is doing his absolute best to keep Piquet honest:
“We will decide only at the end of the year what we are going to do,” Flavio said. “A single race is not really going to change our thoughts. It seems to me only natural that he should be performing.”
There is an obvious reason why Briatore has not decided Piquet’s fate - he is still waiting for Fernando Alonso to confirm for 2009. Piquet’s future is inextricably linked to that of his team-mate. And with Renault test driver Luca di Grassi - another talented young Brazilian - waiting in the wings, Piquet would do well to have a Plan B stuffed up the sleeve of his overalls.
What would you do in Briatore’s position?

It’s a real pity that he’s doing so badly out of nowhere this season - and I’m sure Flavio will drop him, but what potential talent wasted. Seen what he can do in GP2, after all…
Jelena, Piquet Snr has about that many kids - but I do believe only half of them are sons…
Nelsinho’s sister is a real cutie though!
