The Spoiler

That was, er… dull

Lewis Hamilton is as close as he was last season to becoming world champion with one race to go, after a routine victory in China. He leads Felipe Massa by seven points with only the Brazilian GP left to run, in two weeks’ time. Job almost done, you might think, but Lewis threw away exactly the same lead at the same stage in 2007, so it’s not over yet. And although Lewis won, it won’t make Brazil any less nailbiting.

If you got up early on Sunday morning to watch the race live, you have our commiserations - Shanghai served up a monumentally dull procession, albeit with a very good result for McLaren fans. Jackie Stewart, who is rooting for Lewis, called it “boringly good”, which sums it up nicely.

Ferrari, who never looked like matching Hamilton’s relentless pace, can take comfort in a good haul of points. The Italian team now has an 11-point lead over McLaren, and they are nailed-on to win the constructors’ championship - especially with Heikki Kovalainen driving so erratically.

More on China tomorrow on Gridcrasher. For now, check out some photos from the race weekend, after the jump…

Love the picture of Lewey with his two mums. Lovely - what a fabulous man with a fabulous family.

Lewis has proven what he mentioned in his book: ,
“with the help of my family, I’ve bounced back twice as strong as before”.
Kimi always shows that he is extraordinary one.

Of course he had by far the best car this weekend, but at least he didn’t throw away points. So finally at least one of the competitors did the least that has to be expected. Great.

Not sure Kovalainen would agree that the McLaren was easily the best car.

So when a safety car hands Alonso victory in Singapore it’s “all hail Super Nando” but if Hamilton dominates from start to finish it’s “the least that has to be expected.” Don’t be so bitter!

The real A Ludlow would NEVER say “lol”. So so crass and dumb.

Bringing a valuable position home really is the least that has to be expected from every F1 driver. Sad enough that we can’t even take that for granted with the current competitors. And I for one never said that Alonso’s victory was something special - he was very lucky, that’s all (just like Hamilton in Monaco and several other occasions).
