Did Timo Glock slow down deliberately for Lewis?

Toyota driver denies foul play on last lap

emp-5773796.jpg

Some Ferrari fans and conspiracy theorists have accused Timo Glock of slowing down deliberately on the final lap of Sunday’s Brazilian GP, to let Lewis Hamilton overtake him and take the crucial fifth place that he needed to win the title.

Glock replied to the accusation by saying: “Are you taking the Mickey?”

Some Brazilian fans at Interlagos even booed Glock after the race, thinking he had robbed local boy Felipe Massa of the championship. But to blame Glock is ridiculous.

The notion that Glock allowed Lewis to pass him is laughable. Toyota had absolutely nothing to gain by helping Hamilton. Also, the German’s slow final-lap time matched that of team-mate Jarno Trulli, who was also on slicks in treacherous conditions - and Trulli was nowhere near Lewis.

Glock had zero grip on the final lap - it’s that simple. And if Toyota had brought him into the pits to replace the slicks with a couple of laps to go (as McLaren did, quite rightly), he would never have been in front of Hamilton in the first place, and we wouldn’t be having this debate.

Toyota made a wrong call, McLaren didn’t. End of story.

Of course Glock didn’t slow down deliberately - you’re quite right. But I wouldn’t call it a mistake - his net time over the final few laps was quicker than Hamilton and Massa’s. It was a gamble worth taking.

Sure spiced things up though! I’m stil recovering…

Well… McLaren fans certainly like conspiracy theories, so why not? Personally though, I think it was simply bad driving from Glock. Not only slow, but he couldn’t even stay on the inside line. Anyway, the incident once again was a case of Hamilton’s proverbial luck that more than anything else won him this championship.

(That isn’t even meant to be disrespectful, he certainly wasn’t the first who had to rely on a lot of luck to win the title.)

Keith: I think Toyota had less to lose, so gambling was an easier decision, sure.

Joker: A bit harsh on Timo, I think - his tyres had no grip at all. I think McLaren were overcautious but Lewis did get out of jail at the end.

I don’t think Toyota did make a mistake as Glock finished 6th, effectively gaining a place by not pitting, but did he slow down to help Lewis, course not!

who knows only he knows the truth and he is not telling anyone the rest are just hypotesys but does it matter at all, it is just one point diference between him and the ferrari driver, therefore the diference is not mush however it is the same result as last year’s with kimi, i wonder if that is not more interesting than TG acctitude. i feel alonzo is the problem of lewis and not ferr

Have any of you actually driven a race car on dry tyres in an increasingly wet track?
    1) you don’t know where the actual limit is each corner because of it getting increasingly wetter.
2)I believe with the handling of a formula 1 car you need to keep going hard out for the whole lap otherwise you will spin or run off line ~due to lack of tyre temp, or the aerodynamics etc.
    3) Chances are he didn’t actually know that Hamilton was behind him or the position of the other cars, he was probably just driving to maximize Toyotas points for the weekend.

    MASSA CAN SUCK IT !

HE NEVER DESERVED TO BE CHAMPION THIS SEASON, AND NEVER WILL DESERVE IT !
    HE’S JUST A SECOND DRIVER, THAT’S ALL !

TRULLI ALSO ON SLICKS HAD THE SAME LAP TIME AS GLOCK - END OF STORY THERE.

WELL DONE LEWIS, I AGREE WITH WHAT NICO SAID - YOU REALLY DESERVED IT ! WELL DONE !

YEAH, MASSA CAN SUCK IT. IF IT WASNT FOR SPA, LEWIS WOULD BE CHAMPION IN CHINA.

BESIDES, IF THEY AHD THE SAME NUMBER OF POINTS, MASSA WOULD ONLY HAVE WON BECAUSE OF SPA, AND THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN DISGUSTING. MASSA IS A DISGRACE TO MANKIND, I CANT BELIEVE HE THINKS HE WON IN SPA - WHAT A DISGRACE !

Glock slowed down without question, Why, do you think that Bernie Eccleston would be happy with Massa taking the crown and missing out on the marketing windfall that a win from Hamilton would produce.
Sport is a business and sometimes underhanded tactics do prevail.
Facts the track was not even that wet and the so called slicks do have grip on them as they are grooved. If you look at the replay you will even see Glock pulling over to let him through and he did not slip all over the track. Massa was robbed he is a gentlemen while the same can not be said about Hamilton, he is a bad loser and also bad sportsman. Remember the deliberate crash into a ferrari in the pits when he was in the direct line of the Bmw.

Go Massa , make this Hamiltons last illegitimate win

Why would Glock help Lewis? Yes they got on in GP2 but Timo was furious at Lewis after Monza, this year. The fact is Glock was faster then Trulli (only other driver on dry tyres) on the last lap, and don’t even bother saying they both slowed down to make it look less like he was helping Lewis. Honestly Ferrari fans are so deluded and should really learn to lose with a bit of dignity.

  • 12 Jimmy // Nov 4, 2008 at 9:05 am

Dino Ducci (if that is your real name) your talking rubbish we don’t even have slick tires this year, if your saying it was influenced by business Ferrari is the biggest brand in F1 still bigger then Lewis so that argument doesn’t even make sense.

stop this sh!te you muppets1!! hammerlips was only 800 metres from the finish when glockenspiel let him past!!! glock was playing with his cock instead of looking where he was going the fukwit!!! he was on the uphill climb onto the start-finish straight and was hardly cornering as he moved out of hammerlips way!!! He has guaranteed that he will NEVER IN HIS MISERABLE FUCKING LIFE ever be offered a contract to drive for Ferrari after this little tradgedy!!! And Toyota may find it difficult to justify keeping this cunt, because not only is glock a fukkin loser, but Toyota are fukkin losers as well!!! So now we all know why Toyota, with 1 of the biggest budgets in the pit lane, will never win fuck all!!! coz they got shit drivers!!!!!!:) muhahahahahahahahahahahahahahah

Glock Rocks!!! Go Lewis go… Massa Mauled ; Kubica Pah!!

  • 19 Piotr // Nov 10, 2008 at 12:43 pm

Glock did his best. Watch Hamilton’s onboard cam how he’s fighting the slips on wet tires. Glock was driving on dry ones. Stop this bullshit conspiracy theories, Glock was mad on Lewis for almost being pushed off the track. Great win for Massa, great luck for Hamilton, AGAIN.

  • 20 Sandza // Nov 11, 2008 at 1:46 pm

even if glock let hami through, so what?? good to c that while other drivers are vocal abt their preferences, other talk on the track!!

  • 21 jayjayjayjayjay // Nov 11, 2008 at 3:01 pm

    The facts are simple.

Lewis won the championship - I hate him as a driver, he is arrogant, cocky and unlawful, but HE won.

Now did he deserve to win? Im a Ferrari fan, and personally don’t think Massa deserved to win it this year, so maybe yes he did.

Now for the answer to the title of this thread?

Did Glock move over for Lewis - 100% yes. Ferrari can not really complain over and over and to their credit have not - What schumacher did at Monaco was hardly sporting, but he was branded a cheat for life, possibly rightly so.

Although Hamilton won and I would not like to see anyone stripped of a title which some sights are demanding (sorry chaps, no chance there), what Glock did was far worse than anything that Schumacher did, or Senna when he took out Prost to win the championship.

Glock is the cheat here, no one else. And for all of those who don’t know or don’t care to know, Glock and Hamiliton are best of mates on and off the track, have been for over 10 years. And the fact Toyota made Glock issue a statement saying it was ‘not’ deliberate speaks volumes for the fact he has been caught.

And to the numpty above who moans about the track being wet and bad conditions, the part of the track where Glock moved over was NOT that wet and having racxed in very simular tyres myself, I can categorically confirm that there is no way that he should lose over 6 seconds on that corner - it was dry and he moved over to the part which was starting to get wet. The main part on the track which was getting wet was at the end of the pit straight.

Yaj, If the corner where Glock supposedly has lost 6 seconds and let 3 cars past at the same time.. (Why three??) wasn’t wet at all, can u explain the fact why did Luis loose the position to Vettel in the same corner?? I guess he was helping Vettel and not because of rain, naaa. Both toyotas had the same last lap time. Coincidence?. Masa hasn’t won the race without starting on pole.. He deserves it!
