Royal Mail plans Lewis stamps
The Royal Mail is planning to honour Lewis Hamilton’s world title with… you’ve guessed it… a commemorative set of stamps. The stamps will be issued in the new year.
Hamilton wouldn’t be the first F1 star to get his own stamps. Gilles Villeneuve, Ayrton Senna, Mika Hakkinen, Michael Schumacher and, most recently, Kimi Raikkonen have all been recognised in a lickable format.
Call us mean-spirited, but isn’t it rather premature to honour Lewis in this way? Wait until he’s won a couple more titles, at least - then he’d deserve such a tribute. There are more deserving subjects. For example, as the Mirror points out, Turner Prize-winning artist Steve McQueen “has been pressurising Royal Mail to issue a set of stamps commemorating British servicemen who died in Iraq”, but to no avail.

whether or not he deserves them is WHOSE decision? is it going to be voted on by a panel of judges/officianados? is it a royal mail decision or is there some influence from the government?? we all know Gordon Brown, ( the Prime Minister of England), already has a tongue in exactly the same shape as Lewis`s arsehole, so we have to presume even the Queen is ok with it! long live Queen Lewis!!!!!!!! :0

Yes, he warrants this recognition. He is our first British World Champion. He has beaten the best in the world this year and if he team mate hadn’t been plagued with bad luck and misfortune, they would have won the constructors championship as well. I will use these stamps to send my hate mail to Bernie’s Company Offices. Long live King Lewis

Of course he deserves his own stamps. I bet there wasn’t this stupid debate in Finland over Raikkonen but of course, as it’s Lewis, the racists, haters, and idiots come out of the woodwork. Why should he win a couple of titles first? Kimi didn’t. Before he won a title, people were saying, wait until he’s won a championship first - the bar keeps being raised. And I don’t want dead servicemen on stamps - half of them are members of the BNP and only join the army to kill foreigners. They would be braver if they were conscientious objectors!

Ludlow, it’s fair enough to argue that Hamilton deserves his own stamp but your army/BNP comment is stupid and just as bad as most of the stuff you criticise Hamilton haters for saying. It will also only serve to make less people support your stance on the stamp debate - surely you’re smart enough to realise that?

Michael, my army/BNP comment is valid. And who cares if my views make less people support the stamp debate? It’s out of my hands. Lewis will always have his irrational critics, so my views won’t alter that. And incidentally, I am an army brat so I know of what I speak. Army personnel still have brains and can work out whether the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are just or not. Maybe if more solders in My Lai cared about humanity and used their consciences, the massacre wouldn’t have happened. Only a couple of soldiers had the decency to object to it - story of humanity really.
