Beeb confirms commentary team for 2009 coverage
After much speculation, the BBC has revealed its team to cover F1 next season. This is how they roll:
Studio anchor: Jake Humphrey
Crasher verdict: The Beeb’s golden boy is likeable but bland and inexperienced. A weak choice, but he’ll be fine as long as he leaves most of the talking to…
Studio pundits: David Coulthard, Eddie Jordan
Crasher verdict: A great partnership in the making. Jordan is always outspoken and DC has great potential
Chief commentator: Jonathan Legard
Crasher verdict: Legard is a safe pair of hands and knows his stuff, but he is rather uninspiring
Co-commentator: Martin Brundle
Crasher verdict: The best F1 broadcaster around, will add much-needed colour to Legard’s greyness
Pit reporters: Ted Kravitz, Lee McKenzie
Crasher verdict: Good to see Kravitz keep his post in the pit lane. He’ll get McKenzie (pictured) up to speed too
Overall verdict: Looks good, much better than ITV’s team. Legard and Humphrey are safe choices, but there’s enough experience and charisma around them to compensate.
How do you rate the Beeb’s new team?

Don’t like the look of Lee McKenzie - can’t stand women who thrust their cleavage forward so that men cannot see how untalented they are.
Jake Humphrey is a foetus.
DC is a dickhead, and Eddie Jordan has foot-in-mouth disease.
I miss James Allen already.

Good news about Ted, was quite unexpected as well! The Beeb have secured the only two good pieces of the ITV F1 machine. EJ and Coulthard will be good in the studio, but I want Legard’s job!

Seems like a great line up for the new f1 coverage
At least we won’t have adverts anymore
ITV coverage was never any good, they always went to an advert break at the worst possible time.

Looking forward to it, Coulthard has a perfectly shaped head for TV, and Brundle in an uninterrupted, intelligent discussion on air (for the first time in years? I couldn’t possibly comment) will be worth listening to.
re “Don’t like the look of Lee McKenzie - can’t stand women”…
she was fine on the radio from Interlagos. Can’t be any worse than Louise Goodman’s line of questioning - “Aw, Jense, you must be gutted”!

Lee McKenzie is a great choice, she is a passionate motorsport fan, very knowledgeable and very cool on camera. I hope they don’t send her on fluff pieces “where F1 wags do their shopping ” etc, but just let her gather news from pit lane.. she’ll be great.
7 Unless we’re very much mistaken, Murray Walker is back | Gridcrasher - Motor Sports // Nov 25, 2008 at 10:27 am
[…] Walker will be part of the BBC F1 commentary team next year, although he’s only being let loose on the web. The Beeb said Murray would be a […]

JA is was the worst of the worst F1 commentators.. I hope he never commentates another race ever ever again.. For the sake of us fans, so that he will no longer impose upon us his incessent verbal drivel… However, why not say… Brundle and John Palmer?? I reckon that would make a top commentary team! I’ve always been a John Palmer fan!
