High winds + short skirts = public embarrassment

Ah, the perils of being an F1 grid girl - especially at Silverstone, where the wind always blows. Still, we’re sure most male F1 fans weren’t complaining.

Grid WAG No. 15: Gemma Garrett

Miss Great Britain brought the sexy to the British GP

Gemma Garrett hasn’t publicly declared a relationship with a man who makes a living wearing fireproof overalls, so she isn’t technically a WAG, yet she has more than earned a position as Grid Girl of the Day for her starring role in this year’s British Grand Prix. The current Miss Great Britain was selected as the ‘official face‘ of Silverstone, which basically meant she pranced around looking pretty while pretending to know who Jackie Stewart is making acquaintance with Jackie Stewart.

Grid WAG No. 9: Vivian Burkhardt

Miss World runner-up who was cheated by a McLaren ace

Lewis Hamilton’s mystery date at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival was 22-year-old beauty queen Vivian Burkhardt, a former Miss Grenada and Miss World contestant. The couple first met on the island through Hamilton’s family connections - Hamilton makes regular visits to Grenada to visit his grandfather, who returned to the island after moving to Britain in the 1950s. However, she was mighty ticked off when she realised ol’ Cassanova was two-timing her with Nicole Sherzinger.

Beauty queen brightens up F1 British Grand Prix

Miss Great Britain sends message to Bernie Ecclestone…

Last month we told you that Gemma Garrett, the reigning Miss GB, had been chosen as the official face (and body, may we suggest) of the 2008 British Grand Prix. And here she is at Silverstone a couple of weeks ago, sporting a tasteful “Silverstone Rocks!” top.

Wee Bernie didn’t seem to get the message, despite the fact that if he shook hands with Gemma, his eyes would be level almost exactly with her chest.

F1 videos: Fernando Alonso ignores fans at Silverstone

Spanish star disappoints autograph hunters

Leave it - no amount of shouting “Fernando!” in a really annoying voice is going to get him to come over and sign your Lewis Hamilton t-shirt. What, a little wave isn’t enough? Give Nando a break, there’s a fully stocked hotel minibar calling him.

What’s the Spanish for bastardo? Hmm, we think it might be “bastardo”.

Donington reveals upgrade plans for F1 British GP in 2010

New British GP venue to get major facelift…

… But will it happen in time for the 2010 race?

Donington’s owners have revealed details of the planned revamp that will bring the circuit up to modern F1 standards for 2010. That’s the plan, anyway. If they don’t get a move on, Bernie Ecclestone could still take his toys elsewhere.

The current 2.5-mile circuit last hosted a grand prix in 1993 (The European GP, won by Ayrton Senna). It will be extended by half a mile thanks to the addition of a new loop at the final corner. A new pit and paddock complex will be built on the inside of Starkey’s Straight, while the Esses chicane may also be removed to extend the length of the start-finish straight.

British GP: inside Ferrari’s Paddock Club with F1 Fanatic

Blogger reveals extent of F1 corporate hospitality

paddock_renault.jpg

Keith from F1 Fanatic enjoyed an eye-opening day out at F1’s Paddock Club at last weekend’s British Grand Prix. The Paddock Club represents the upper end of F1 hospitality, with nothing but the finest food, wine, treats and goodies - plus a live DJ set and an actual F1 car in the dining area. We are officially very jealous.
