FIA shake-up of Formula One season continues
Formula One’s big revamp continued today after another of the championship’s classic circuits bit the dust. The 2009 calendar has no space for a Canadian Grand Prix, which means no North American races at all next season. Canada has hosted a grand prix for all but two years since 1961. The 2009 race would have been the 30th at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
Canada’s June slot has been handed to the Turkish Grand Prix, originally planned for August, to allow the teams to have a summer break. The calendar remains otherwise unchanged. McLaren conspiracy theorists will note that it is a very good Lewis Hamilton circuit which has been dropped (albeit it ended in tears this season). Are you sad to see the Canadian Grand Prix go?
