Nando going nowhere

After months of speculation, Renault has announced that Fernando Alonso is staying with the team for another two seasons - no surprise really, although we thought Nando wanted to sign for just one season, before switching to Ferrari - his dream team - in 2010.

Fernando Alonso was toying with the idea of decreasing time spent on the podium in 2009 by joining Honda, and was also tipped to replace Kimi Raikkonen at Ferrari, but has today confirmed he will stay in Flavio Briatore’s pocket:

Before he married Italian goddess Elisabetta Gregoraci, Renault head honcho Flavio Briatore enjoyed a Playboy lifestyle that saw him entertain some of the finest ladies on God’s green earth. One such lucky lady was German supermodel and current Seal boffer Heidi Klum. Flavio, we wish we knew your secret. What’s that? The secret is having loads of money? Oh, right.

Flavio Briatore says sorry for Martian gibe

Flavio Briatore has apologised to Lewis Hamilton for branding him “a Martian”. The Renault boss had accused Lewis of being an otherworldly star who gets too much attention. Briatore also said he believed “Hamilton will again try to throw away the title”.

But the pair apparently kissed and made up in Shanghai on Saturday. A McLaren insider said: “Briatore spoke to a Mercedes official, who he asked to convey his apologies to Lewis. Lewis has accepted the apology and, as far as everyone in the team is concerned, the matter is over and forgotten.”

If you didn’t see Flavio’s comments, he said: “Lewis should be told he is an F1 driver, not a Martian… He’s no Muhammad Ali. He’s a youngster who still has to show his worth.”

Nelson Piquet’s future at Renault appears to still be in doubt after team boss Flavio Briatore said that the Brazilian’s fine drive - from 12th to fourth - at Fuji last Sunday was not enough to guarantee the young Brazilian a seat for 2009.
In fairness, Briatore also praised Piquet’s performance in Japan, but he is doing his absolute best to keep Piquet honest:

“We will decide only at the end of the year what we are going to do,” Flavio said. “A single race is not really going to change our thoughts. It seems to me only natural that he should be performing.”

Italian businessman is Flavio Briatore is known by most as the MD of the Renault F1 team and part owner of Queens Park Rangers.
