Even the narration of Jeremy Clarkson can’t ruin the entertainment value of this cracking shootout between Villeneuve and Arnoux at Dijon - and they weren’t even contesting the lead. Magic.

Let’s hope that this Sunday’s French GP contains half as much drama.

FRENCH FACT The race was won by a French driver (Jean-Pierre Jabouille), driving a French car (Renault), on French tyres (Michelin), powered on French fuel (Elf) and powered by a French engine (Renault). French-tastic!

1. Nigel Mansell on Nelson Piquet (Silverstone, 1987)

A classic dummy from Mansell, one of motorsport’s most fearless overtakers. Nige jinked left then powered through on Piquet’s right. The Silverstone crowd went wild.
