Ten years ago, this incident may well have cost Kovalainen his life; F1’s zero-tolerance attitude to safety in the 21st century means that a driver can almost walk away from a huge crash like this. As a precaution, the Finn had to be airlifted to hospital, but he suffered no injury apart from minor concussion after the smash.
Martin Brundle and co. win award for Canadian GP show
ITV Sport’s F1 team have won a second successive BAFTA, this time for their coverage of the incident-packed 2007 Canadian Grand Prix. Montreal ‘07 saw Lewis Hamilton’s first ever F1 win, four safety cars, and Robert Kubica’s spectacular crash (which you can enjoy here from a great angle, safe in the knowledge that the Pole walked away).
